Meet Angela
Angela Orange knows firsthand the power of education to change lives. She grew up in a rural, farming community in southwest Georgia as one of twelve children. Opportunities were not always easy to come by, but through the encouragement of her family and community, Angela pursued higher education at Emory University and later the University of Georgia. Those experiences shaped her deep belief that every child deserves access to opportunities that open doors to a brighter future.
Before serving on the Board of Education, Angela worked as a middle school teacher in a Title I school, teaching English Language Arts, literacy, and math. Her time in the classroom gave her an understanding of how hard students and educators work each day—and how critical it is to have policies and resources that support their success.
For the past eight years, Angela has represented Ward 5 on the Marietta City Schools Board of Education. She has consistently prioritized listening to families, supporting educators, and delivering real results for students. Arm in arm with the Lemon Street Alumni groups, Angela worked collaboratively with the community effort to renovate the historic Lemon Street Grammar School into a vibrant extension of Marietta High School—now home to wraparound student services, a night school, and mentoring programs that provide students with different pathways to succeed. This project honored the legacy of Lemon Street while creating new opportunities for today’s students and future generations.
Since Angela has been on the board, Marietta has become a state and national leader in literacy. The district’s Literacy and Justice for All initiative, grounded in the Science of Reading, has brought in major grants and transformed literacy instruction. As a result, Marietta students have achieved historic gains in reading, record graduation rates, and unprecedented acceptances into colleges, careers, and the armed forces.
Angela believes this work is bigger than any one election or any one candidate—it’s about standing shoulder to shoulder with families, educators, and neighbors to ensure all children have the opportunities they deserve. Her campaign is rooted in a vision of excellence and shared responsibility, because strong schools require all of us working together.
Beyond the boardroom, Angela has built a career in education and nonprofit leadership, guided by values of service and collaboration. She serves on the Georgia School Boards Association Board of Directors and the SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Directors. She is also a proud Coca-Cola Scholar Alumna, and is active in the community through Leadership Cobb and other initiatives.
With eight years of trusted leadership and proven results, Angela is running for re-election to the Marietta Board of Education because she believes in the potential of every child and is committed to building bright futures filled with purpose and possibility.
